Medium ruby in appearance, our 2013 Merlot has lovely violet and floral perfume, red fruit and dried herb. The flavors follow with tart currant, and a very savory supple palate and polished tannin.
The 2013 vintage began as a warm, early ripening weather and finished the season with early Oregon rains. The unexpected weather led to wines with classic cool vintage qualities -- aromatically expressive and nuanced. The 2013 vintage was a warm, early vintage. The resulting wines were plump with richness and depth.
The fruit was hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented for 10 to 14 days. The small lots were aerated and treated with punch downs. Post-fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months (25% once-filled).
